Who I am
I'm Jussi Hyvärinen, and I research and write everything on this site.
For 20 years I was the chief information officer of a company with more than a billion dollars in annual revenue. For the past ten years I've run my own online businesses, and for the past five I've been writing about gold IRAs and precious metals retirement accounts.
I'm in my late fifties, so retirement planning isn't an abstract subject for me. The questions this site tries to answer, such as what an account really costs, which rules apply, and how to check a company before trusting it with your savings, are ones I want answered carefully for my own sake too.
What I'm not
I'm not a financial advisor, a tax professional, or a registered investment adviser, and I don't sell precious metals. Nothing on this site is personal financial, tax, or legal advice. For decisions about your own retirement savings, talk to a licensed professional who knows your situation.
How I research
Every fact on this site should be something you can check yourself. I start with primary sources: IRS publications and the tax code, court records, releases from regulators such as the CFTC and SEC, Better Business Bureau and Business Consumer Alliance files, and each company's own published materials. I link to those sources, record when I checked them, and say so plainly when something can't be verified.
I don't invent ratings or scores, and I don't combine different platforms' ratings into a single number. When I compare companies, I use each company's own published information and its third-party records, and I cover the drawbacks as well as the strengths. The full approach is on the methodology page.
How the site is funded
