Complaint counts are absolute numbers, so companies with more customers tend to show more of them. A complaint is a customer's allegation, not a finding against the company.

Changes Since Earlier Checks

No changes recorded yet. We re-check every profile each month, and any change in a rating or complaint count will be listed here with the date we found it.

Lists of the "best gold IRA companies" usually rank firms with scores you can't check. This page does something simpler: it puts the public records of eight gold IRA companies side by side, exactly as the Better Business Bureau, the Business Consumer Alliance, and Trustpilot publish them, with a link and a date for every figure. We re-check every profile each month and log what changed.

Augusta Precious Metals is one of the eight, and we may be compensated if you contact Augusta through this site. It appears on the same terms as every other company: the same sources, the same fields, and alphabetical order.

What Each Source Measures

BBB rating. The Better Business Bureau grades businesses from A+ to F. The grade is BBB's opinion of how a business is likely to deal with its customers, based on its complaint history, how it responds to complaints, its transparency, and any government action against it. BBB accreditation is a separate status that a business applies for, so a business can hold an A+ rating without being accredited.

BBB complaints. The number of complaints shown on the business's BBB profile for the last three years. A complaint is a customer's account of a problem; the count alone doesn't say whether it was justified or how it was resolved. The complaint pages on BBB show both.

BBB customer reviews. An average of the reviews customers post on BBB, out of 5. BBB doesn't use these reviews to calculate the letter grade.

BCA rating. The Business Consumer Alliance rates businesses from AAA, its highest rating, to F, using factors that include time in business, complaint volume and seriousness, and how the business responds. The complaint count is the number BCA reports as closed in the last three years.

Trustpilot. The TrustScore runs from 1 to 5 and is calculated from reviews on Trustpilot, with more weight given to recent ones. Businesses can invite their own customers to leave reviews, so the number of reviews partly reflects how actively a company asks for them.

What These Records Can't Tell You

  • Prices. None of these platforms reports what a company charges for metals or how its markups compare. Ask any company for its prices and fees in writing before you buy.
  • Complaints per customer. Complaint counts are absolute numbers, so a company that serves many more customers can show more complaints than a small one.
  • Certainty. A clean record isn't a guarantee, and a single complaint isn't proof of wrongdoing. Reading a few complaints, and the company's replies, usually tells you more than the count.
  • What happens next. Ratings change over time, which is why every figure carries the date we checked it.

How We Check

Each month we open every company's public BBB, BCA, and Trustpilot profile and record what it shows that day. When a rating or complaint count changes, the table shows the previous value next to the new one, and the change is listed with the date we found it. We don't adjust platform figures, combine them into a score, or rank the companies. Our methodology explains how we research the rest of this site.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you rank these companies or give them a score?
Because the three platforms measure different things. A BBB letter grade reflects how a business handles complaints and other factors, a BCA rating uses its own criteria, and a TrustScore is calculated from reviews. Blending them into one number would hide those differences and produce a score nobody could check. We show each platform's own figure, with a link and the date we read it, so you can check it yourself.
How often is this table updated?
We re-check every company's BBB, BCA, and Trustpilot profile each month. Each figure shows the date it was last checked, and any change in a rating or complaint count is listed on this page with the date we found it.
Does an A+ BBB rating or an AAA BCA rating guarantee a good experience?
No. Both organizations say their ratings are not a guarantee of a business's reliability or performance. A top rating means the business's record looked strong when it was graded. Reading a few complaints and how the company answered them, and getting every cost in writing, will tell you more about what to expect.
