Augusta Precious Metals' main promotion is a fee waiver: zero setup, custodian, and storage fees for up to 10 years, and Augusta says everyone who qualifies for an account gets it. It isn't a bonus-metals offer, and it doesn't change what you pay for the metals themselves. This page explains what the waiver is worth, what it leaves out, and how it compares with the free-silver offers common elsewhere in the industry.

What the Fee Waiver Covers

Augusta's account fees have three parts. The promotion waives all three for up to 10 years:

Fee Published amount With the promotion
Account setup (one-time) $50 $0
Annual custodian administration $125/year $0 for up to 10 years
Annual depository storage $110/year $0 for up to 10 years
Shipping and transit insurance $0 $0

Augusta says everyone who qualifies for an account gets the promotion. The main requirement for an account is the $50,000 minimum purchase; our minimum investment page covers that requirement in detail.

What It's Worth in Dollars

Without the promotion, Augusta's published fees add up like this:

Time horizon Fees without the promotion
Year 1 $285
Each year after $235
5-year total $1,225
10-year total $2,400

For a full 10-year waiver, that's up to $2,400 in account fees you wouldn't pay. On a $50,000 account, the $235 annual fee is about 0.47% of the balance, so in percentage terms the waiver matters more for smaller accounts than larger ones. These figures are a sum of published fees, not a projection of what your metals will be worth. Our fees breakdown has the full math.

What the Promotion Doesn't Cover

The waiver applies to account fees only. Two costs are outside it:

  • The dealer markup. Every precious metals dealer, including Augusta, prices coins and bars above their melt value. That markup is how the dealer earns money on the sale, and it varies by product. Augusta quotes prices by phone rather than on a public price list.
  • The spread when you sell. There's a difference between buy and sell prices on any given day, and the price you get when you sell will differ from the price you paid. It could be higher or lower, and nobody can predict which.

Ask the order desk for the price over melt value and the current spread on any product you're considering, in writing, before you buy.

When the Promotion Ends

The waiver runs for up to 10 years. After that, Augusta's then-current published fee schedule applies; today that would be $125 a year for custodian administration and $110 a year for storage. Promotional terms can change, so confirm the exact length and conditions that apply to your account before you commit.

Augusta and Free-Silver Offers

Some gold IRA companies advertise bonus or "free" silver on larger purchases. Augusta says it doesn't use misleading free-silver promotions, and it educates customers about free-silver offers with hidden costs. The reasoning is straightforward: free metals still have an economic cost, and a bonus can be offset by higher prices elsewhere in the same transaction.

That doesn't mean every bonus offer is a bad deal. It means a bonus tells you nothing on its own about the total cost of a purchase. If any company, Augusta included, makes you an offer, compare the full written pricing: the price over melt value on each product, the account fees, and the buyback terms.

How Other Companies' Promotions Compare

The companies in our comparison series use different kinds of promotions:

Company Promotion
Augusta Precious Metals Zero setup, custodian, and storage fees for up to 10 years
Goldco Tiered bonus silver on larger purchases
American Hartford Gold First-year fees often waived; longer waivers reported for larger balances
Birch Gold Group First-year fees covered on transfers over $50,000

A fee waiver and a metals bonus aren't directly comparable, which is why the total written cost matters more than the headline. Our comparisons with Goldco, American Hartford Gold, and Birch Gold Group cover each company's fees and terms.

The Bottom Line

Augusta's promotion is simple: account fees waived for up to 10 years, worth up to $2,400 on the published schedule, with no bonus-metals offer attached. Augusta doesn't reduce the markup on metals when you buy or the spread when you sell, so get product pricing in writing before you buy, and confirm the promotion's exact terms for your account.
